Yoane Wissa positive Saturday update and looking good ahead of Burnley match

It is looking positive on Yoane Wissa

On Friday, Eddie Howe had this to say on the DR Congo striker.

“We are getting closer.

“We did an 11v11 game, sort of for him, on Wednesday which was good and more minutes for him. Round about half an hour – he did well.

“So far he’s come through everything.

“We still have training today and we’ll make a decision as to whether he’s ready to not just be fit but fit to make a difference and fit to perform to his high standards.”

Now on Saturday ahead of the Burnley match, it appears Eddie Howe has been able to make a positive decision on the striker.

Yoane Wissa amongst those Newcastle United players seen arriving and walking along the side of the pitch pre-match owards the dressing room area, which is normally only the case for those who will feature in the matchday squad.

On Monday we heard that DR Congo had agreed not to select the striker for AFCON (African Cup Of Nations).

This meant that it wasn’t to be a case of Newcastle United getting Yoane Wissa fit at last and then losing him for up to five weeks in December and January.

Monday’s reveal was that after conversations with both Newcastle and Congo manager Sebastian Desabre, all parties agreed it was better to focus on Newcastle, given Wissa hasn’t played for six months.

The World Cup is far more important for DR Congo and with them having to win just one more game in March in order to qualify for the 2026 finals in Mexico, Canada and the USA, having Yoane Wissa fully fit and ready for that via sustained club form, is surely a far bigger priority.

This will be a huge boost for Eddie Howe and the playing squad, if Yoane Wissa is now set to be able to contribute to such an important part of the season, so many key games in quick succession.

Starting today, there are five matches in total in a couple of weeks, Burnley on the 6th December and Chelsea on 20th December, three other huge games in between.

Burnley (H) 6 December, Bayer Leverkusen (A) 10 December, Sunderland (A) 14 December, Fulham (H) 17 December, Chelsea (H) 20 December, Man U 26 December.
