“Go Go Power Rangers!” Following recent rumors that the minds behind the Disney+ fantasy hit Percy Jackson are now working on a reboot of the beloved superhero martial arts action series, MovieWeb can now exclusively confirm that, yes, in this instance, the rumors are true. Speaking with MovieWeb’s own Joe Deckelmeier, Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz tried to keep things as coy as possible…while also teasing an exciting future for the Power Rangers franchise.
During the blue carpet event celebrating the debut of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, which is due to premiere its first two episodes on December 10 on Disney+, MovieWeb asked Dan Shotz if there was any truth to the rumors that he, alongside Jonathan E. Steinberg, would be powering up with the beloved superheroes. While he couldn’t reveal whether the new Power Rangers series will be a continuation of that 30-year legacy or something brand new, Shotz did say that he hopes to bring their Power Rangers story “to life.”
“(Laughs) You are asking questions that you know I can’t answer. Let’s just say we very much hope to bring that story to life, so that’s all I can say at this point.”
The ‘Percy Jackson’ Showrunners Are “Very Excited” to Tell a New ‘Power Rangers’ Story
Dan Shotz played things a lot closer to the chest than Jonathan E. Steinberg, though, with the latter (while still refusing to reveal if it will follow franchise favorites Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini, and Kimberly, or a new set of teens) at least confirming that the rumors of their involvement in a new Power Rangers series for Disney+ are indeed true.
“The rumor is true. I can not tell you, but I am very, very excited for that story.”
More to come…
