Glenn Powell’s ‘Chad Powers’ Renewed for Season 2

Glenn Powell’s ‘Chad Powers’ Renewed for Season 2

Glen Powell is getting ready to suit up and pack on the prosthetics, as his Hulu series Chad Powers will be returning for a Season 2. This will come as a major relief to fans, as the Season 1 finale ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, which will finally be resolved when the series returns. While the renewal means Chad Powers was enough of a hit with audiences to warrant more episodes, not everyone was a fan, as the show sits at only 59% positive reviews on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. Still, this is far from the first time a show was a miss with critics and a hit with audiences at large.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the renewal of the series. Hulu describes Chad Powers:

Eight years after an unforgivable mistake nukes his promising college football career, hotshot quarterback Russ Holliday tries to resurrect his dreams by disguising himself as Chad Powers – a talented oddball who walks on to the struggling South Georgia Catfish.

Chad Powers is based on a sketch from Eli Manning’s Eli’s Places, which saw Peyton Manning similarly sporting prosthetics and walking on to college football tryouts and understandably shocking onlookers with his skills. It’s currently unknown when a Season 2 could start filming or be released.

Powell starred in Top Gun: Maverick back in 2022 and stole scenes from a number of his costars, including Tom Cruise. Maverick marked the first time many audiences saw the actor, though it was far from the last. Powell went on to star in 2023’s Hit Man, and his on-screen chemistry with Sydney Sweeney in Anybody but You made it one of the most buzzed-about rom-coms of the year. The actor continued to find success with his starring role in Twisters, with the energy he brings to a project seeing many people consider him a performer to follow in Cruise’s footsteps.

Like Chad Powers, Powell’s latest cinematic effort, The Running Man, was a divisive experience, as critics liked it more than audiences, sitting at a 62% positive on Rotten Tomatoes though having only taken in $60 million at the time of writing.

Powell will soon be seen in J.J. Abrams’ Ghostwriter alongside Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey and Samuel L. Jackson. A Top Gun 3 is currently in the works at Paramount, yet it’s in early enough stages that it’s unclear if Powell would be expected to return. Given his talents, many fans have speculated about him taking on a superhero role at some point in the future, and having collaborated previously with Cruise and with that actor seemingly leaving behind the Mission: Impossible franchise, fans have called on Powell as the perfect replacement for Cruise in that series.
