I am one very happy Newcastle United fan this Wednesday morning.
What???
Yes, the world hasn’t ended just because last night finished Newcastle 2 Spurs 2.
Of course I was gutted and frustrated when Newcastle United didn’t see out that win. Especially when despite not being at our best, Eddie Howe’s side were easily the better team and carried all the goal threat, only for the Spurs goal to somehow survive until the last 20 minutes.
Bruno and Gordon were excellent once they came off the bench and showed the clinical finishing that had been missing, as well as the luck finally going our way that had been stacked so heavily for Spurs up to those last 20 minutes, There again, those last 20 minutes (plus nine added on…) also saw Spurs score with both of their only two efforts on target all night.
I don’t get all this hysteria though, from many a Newcastle United fan, when things don’t go our way.
When luck and fine margins go against us, or even…shock horror, when usually very reliable players prove that they are only human
You win some and you lose some, sometimes you even draw some! Although that has been a rare experience until last night, as the previous games hadn’t seen a single Newcastle United draw.
I think there is a strange completely over the top mindset building amongst parts of our fanbase, who struggle to accept that things can go for and against us, that the players can try their very best BUT at times they don’t play well, or make mistakes…
I can perfectly understand that in the moment, your instant reaction is ‘what the f… happened there???’ when Spurs fluked that goal to make it 2-2.
However, you should be able to then move on once a bit of time and distance are between you and that moment, that final scoreline, then be able to accept that especially with such a crazy busy schedule, seven points from Man City, Everton away and Spurs, doesn’t equal the end of the world. That if getting a win against Burnley it will be 10 points from a possible 12, after 12 points from a possible 33 in the opening 11 Premier League games.
Anyway, by far the biggest reason as to why I am a very happy Newcastle United fan this morning, is that I can’t remember the last time I was successful as a member in a Newcastle United home match ballot BUT this Wednesday morning I HAVE managed to buy a ticket for Burnley on Saturday! I bought a ticket off the official site, a season ticket holder deciding they don’t want to go I am guessing…
I can’t wait, really looking forward to it.
This is the thing as well, I think far too many Newcastle United fans who have season tickets, take it far too much for granted.
This isn’t a case of saying who is more deserving of getting to see the team play because we will all ‘agree’ that it is yourself! I just think that those of you who are lucky enough to get to watch the team in the flesh every match, should live that experience for the rest of us who live what feels like a Squid Game existence, so many challenges and obstacles in our way in a usually fruitless search for match tickets.
