How To Watch ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 the Best Way, According to Ross Duffer

Fans of Stranger Things have been urged to ditch the “garbage” settings on their TV sets if they want to watch the first part of Season 5 in the best way. While many people are streaming the series on TVs the size of a mindflayer, with all the latest gimmicks and gadgets in play on their 8K display, Ross Duffer has suggested that everyone needs to switch off all enhancements and watch the show as it was intended to be seen.

Sharing a post on Instagram ahead of the debut of Stranger Things 5: Part 1, one half of the creative team behind the series told fans how to get the most out of their Stranger Things viewing experience…and it does not involve enhancing features offered by many TV sets these days. He said:

“A little PSA before you watch tonight. I want to make sure that your TVs are set up properly.”

In the video, seen below, Duffer went on to advise that everyone should turn off all enhancements such as super-resolution, dynamic contrast, color filter, and other “garbage,” including the “biggest offenders” like truemotion and smoothmotion settings, which he said lead to the “dreaded soap opera effect.” He added:

“Whatever you do, do not switch anything on ‘vivid’ because it’s gonna turn on all the worst offenders. It’s gonna destroy the color, and it’s not the filmmaker’s intent.”

‘Stranger Things 5’ Is Pleasing Fans…However They Watched It

The hype around Stranger Things 5 is unlike anything seen since the arrival of Season 8 of Game of Thrones…and we all know how that turned out. However, so far, Stranger Things has avoided leading the final season down a rabbit hole of doom and has delivered the best audience reviews since Season 1. Obviously, there is a long way still to go, but so far, there is not much more the show could have done to welcome everyone back to Hawkins for one final apocalyptic adventure.

Stranger Things Season 5 has opened its account with a 91% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes, but with this score coming from those die-hard fans that binged their way through all four episodes as soon as they landed at 8 p.m ET on Wednesday, it is perhaps not surprising that they have been happy with the result. The real test will come in the next few days, as more people watch the show in a less frantic rush…and, of course, Part 2 in December and the series finale on New Year’s Eve will seal the fate of Stranger Things as a show that never missed or one that, like so many, stumbles on the home straight.

Stranger Things Season 5 Part 1, consisting of four episodes, is available now on Netflix. Part 2 will arrive on Christmas Day, and the series finale will air on Netflix and in cinemas at 8 p.m. ET on New Year’s Eve.
