Looking at this updated Champions League table on Thursday morning.
Eighteen teams playing their fifth round games on Wednesday night.
This followed nine games and eighteen teams involved on Tuesday.
Which included Newcastle United fans seeing their team lose 2-1 away against Marseille.
Remember, the top eight will automatically go through to the last 16 knockout stage.
Whilst those finishing 9th to 24th will go into two-legged play-offs to decide the other eight that will make up the final 16.
Eddie Howe’s side having now played five of their eight league matches in the Champions League so far, with Bayer Leverkusen away next, followed by PSV Eindhoven at St James’ Park, before finally PSG away.
This is how the Champions League table now looks on Thursday (27 November 2025) morning:

As you can see, Newcastle United now in 11th place in the Champions League table.
One point and three places off an automatic top eight qualifying place for the last 16 knockout stages.
The final nine Champions League fifth round matches (see below) played out last night.
The best case scenario before Wednesday night’s matches had been – Newcastle United could stay as high as eighth, if other results had gone our way.
As for the worst case scenario – Newcastle United could have dropped as low as twelfth, if all the other results hadn’t gone our way.
