It’s genuinely hard trying to choose what to play in 2025, and Xbox Game Pass isn’t making it any easier for us. There are a ridiculous number of new games on the service at the moment, all of which demand attention as my backlog grows and grows.
To be honest with you, I’ve only just gotten around to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which is obviously a little bit embarrassing. And instead of getting my head down and finishing that, my time has been consumed by another recent addition to Xbox Game Pass.
Xbox Game Pass Has Added An All-Consuming Monster
Somebody send help
Xbox Game Pass recently added the horror/gambling roguelike Cloverpit, which is very much like the twisted child of Balatro and Inscryption. Reader, it is entirely up my street.
To be very clear, I don’t gamble in real life. Not remotely my cup of tea. But sit me down in front of a virtual slot machine, and you have me hook, line and sinker. Tell me it’s a haunted slot machine, and you’ve just sweetened the deal, friend.
Cloverpit has thousands of positive reviews already on Steam, where it launched back in September. But now Xbox gamers are being seduced by the spinning slots and shiny numbers.
“Just like Balatro, I started playing and six hours later I was still playing lol,” one Reddit user warns fellow Game Pass subscribers.
Another adds: “Oddly enough I haven’t really enjoyed Balatro but I’ve loved Cloverpit. In between plays of Ball X Pit of course. Still need to go back to Deep Rock Survivor at some point…”
Xbox Game Pass Isn’t Letting Up
There’s more to come
While Xbox Game Pass did unleash a controversial price increase earlier this year, it does seem to be redoubling its efforts to bury us in games. The 2026 lineup is already looking pretty stacked, with 39 games already confirmed.
Some of the games coming next year include:
- Beast Of Reincarnation
- Crowsworn
- Fable
- Echo Generation 2
- Darkwood 2
- Erosion
- Forza Horizon 6
- Nirvana Noir
- Replaced
- Tropico 7
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. When my backlog gets even bigger next year, I’m blaming Xbox Game Pass and Cloverpit.
