Eivind Helland: United target reveals he is open to leaving in January – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United could be about to land one of their long-term targets in January if the latest developments are true.

The Peoples Person has already relayed the Red Devils’ interest in Eivind Helland. Now, the centre-back has told TV2 in an interview that he is contemplating leaving during the winter.

The Norwegian’s current deal with Brann expires next summer, which means he can potentially agree a pre-contract with any club in the winter or leave for a cut-price fee in January.

And currently, the 20-year-old has no intention of agreeing a new deal with the Eliteserien side. He is hoping to make the cut for the Norway national team, who have qualified for the World Cup next year.

Eivind Helland open to leaving in January

“Brann favorite Eivind Helland (20) will not extend his contract now, and is open to leaving Bergen in January.

“There will be a transfer window in January that I will look into. Things can happen then. It will be difficult to get playing time in the World Cup if I play in Brann, it’s as simple as that.

“But a World Cup spot is not something I’m spending a lot of time on right now.”

Brann coach Freyr Alexandersson tried to downplay the defender’s comments. “You might have to talk to Eivind about that. I haven’t read it.

“First of all, it is not the players who decide. The players have a contract with the club. It must be a collaboration between the club, the player and the agent.

“There has to be an offer from a club if it has to happen. It hasn’t happened yet – neither now nor this summer.

United should be all over this deal

“When you are 19-20 years old and have a great status in Brann, and are asked these questions three times a week, you say something you haven’t said before. Then it becomes a headline, and that’s understandable.”

A move for the Norway international makes a lot of sense as he fits INEOS’ recruitment pattern of signing young players.

United did not sign a defender in the summer, and they were expected to strengthen at the back in the winter or next year, amid the uncertain future of Harry Maguire.

Eivind Helland has helped keep six clean sheets in all competitions this season, and his composure under pressure and decision-making with the ball at his feet will aid the Red Devils should they land him in the winter.
