Alongside his upcoming debut as Lobo in the DCU, Jason Momoa has seemingly found the next perfect role, with the actor and action star set to team up with the creator behind Sons of Anarchy for a gritty, no doubt violent drama set within the world of New Zealand’s biker gangs. The series will see Momoa reunite with Apple TV, and it sounds like it’ll deal with the outlaw and familial drama that made Sons of Anarchy such a success.
Momoa will lead the new action crime drama series Nomad for Apple TV, Deadline reveals, with the series coming courtesy of Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. After tracking the journey of Charlie Hunnam’s conflicted biker Jackson “Jax” Teller and his membership of the eponymous motorcycle club across seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy, Sutter will once again smear familial drama with oil and testosterone as he introduces us to the biker gangs of New Zealand.
The pilot is now being written by Sutter alongside Sons of Anarchy producer and John Wick: Chapter 3 writer Chris Collins, with Collins also on board as showrunner for Nomad. While we await further details, you can check out the enticing synopsis for Nomad below…
In the violent underworld of New Zealand’s outlaw bikers, a warrior torn between two lives, two callings and two families must decide which path defines his true destiny.
‘Nomad’ Sees Jason Momoa Continue His Small Screen Success on Apple TV
Created by Kurt Sutter and airing from 2008 to 2014, Sons of Anarchy centered on the lives of an outlaw motorcycle club operating in Charming, a fictional town in California’s Central Valley. The series followed Charlie Hunnam as Jackson “Jax” Teller, who discovers a manifesto written by his late father, who was once president of the club. After reading his father’s thoughts about the direction of the club, Jax begins to question himself, his relationships, and the club itself.
Running for seven seasons, Sons of Anarchy received huge acclaim throughout its run, and is now considered one of the best TV shows of all time. Sons of Anarchy has since launched a spin-off with Mayans M.C., and while a surprising return for Jax has been floated over the years, it seems that Sutter is now onto pastures new with Nomad. But will still straddle a motorcycle to get there, of course.
Taking the lead in Nomad certainly sounds like the perfect role for Jason Momoa, who has already found huge success with Apple TV with the likes of the post-apocalyptic series See and the recent Hawaiian historical drama Chief of War. Alongside Nomad, the popular actor has a pretty stacked docket, returning as Duncan Idaho in director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, playing Blanka in the upcoming adaptation of Street Fighter, joining forces with Dave Bautista for the action comedy The Wrecking Crew, and joining James Gunn’s DCU as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in next year’s Supergirl.
