Final Trailer for New Movie by “The Wizard of Horror” Reveals an Unrelenting Nightmare That’s Out Next Week

Osgood Perkins‘ new movie Keeper, which has been described as an “unforgettable experience” of “pure nightmare fuel,” has unleashed its final trailer. And judging by the looks of it, we should prepare for the scariest and most unsettling movie of the year. Keeper is set to be released on November 14, and promises to once again put the director in the spotlight as one of the most exciting voices in modern horror.

Keeper stars Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland as a couple on a weekend getaway in a remote cabin in the middle of nowhere. Unlike most of Perkins’ horror outings, this one is based on Nick Lepard’s screenplay, as development began during the writers’ strike started by SAG-AFTRA, and producers had to work with a screenwriter who was not part of the WGA. Perkins and partner studio Neon have kept most of the plot under wraps, but he, as well as Maslany, have said that the film will lead with themes of “disgusting maleness,” and will unveil “the horror of heterosexuality.” Perkins has also teased the movie, saying he had “always liked the idea of doing a relationship horror movie… where the relationship is the scary thing.”

The final trailer, which you can see below, comes with the tagline “Let’s go back to when we didn’t know any of this,” teasing the horror Maslany’s Liz will go through. It also features plenty of nightmarish imagery sure to haunt audiences. However, what stands out the most about the trailer is that it showcases the opinions of the lucky few who have seen the movie. And their identities might surprise you.

Several Cinematic Icons Heap Praise on Osgood Perkins’ Latest Nightmare

For Keeper‘s final trailer, Neon has used a strategy that’s not all that common in modern cinema. The studio, one of the most innovative in terms of film marketing, has teamed up with Perkins to screen the film before its release. However, it’s not critics who have seen the movie. Instead, Perkins showed Keeper to his peers – other voices in genre cinema who have expressed their excitement for the horror flick. Their reception is likely the most valuable (both for Perkins and his fans), with their pull quotes actually being included in the trailer in order to make us even more excited for Perkins’ latest.

Hideo Kojima, game designer and avid cinephile, said: “Once again, Osgood Perkins blends new fear and surprise. He is the wizard of horror.” Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-winning director of The Shape of Water and the new Frankenstein movie, also praised the movie, saying, “Keeper is horror origami that skillfully folds into itself.”

James Wan, of The Conjuring and Saw fame, said, “A terrifying, ghostly descent into madness.” Fede Álvarez, the director of 2013’s Evil Dead and Alien: Romulus, writes “Keeper is an experience of pure terror.” Damien Leone, famous for creating the indie horror franchise Terrifier, also celebrated the film, saying “Perkins is a formidable voice in horror.” Finally, Parasite director, and multiple Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho, said that “Perkins has a natural talent for discomfort that transforms into fear.”
