As Amazon MGM Studios begins filming Road House 2, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Dave Bautista, the original director behind the 2024 reboot is going off on his own to direct a competing sequel based on the 1989 original. Yes, the filmmaker is going toe-to-toe with Amazon after promises went unkept for the Gyllenhaal reboot, which skipped theaters for a direct-to-streaming debut.

According to Deadline, Doug Liman has set his sights on directing a sequel to the 1989 version of Road House based on a script by original writer R. Lance Hill. Titled Road House: Dylan, Liman is determined to compete against Amazon’s own reboot sequel with a direct follow-up to the original film that started it all.

More to come.
