Fans of the Fast & Furious franchise received a surprise Thanksgiving message from star Vin Diesel, but it does not paint a happy picture for the upcoming finale of the action saga. While there are many who have been happy to watch the increasingly unbelievable antics of Dom Toretto and his crew, it seems that one person who really just wants to get back to basics is the man himself.
The Fast & Furious saga was never meant to become one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, especially when considering its origins in a 1998 magazine article about illegal street racing. The first movie, released in 2001, kicked off a run of four films that pretty much stuck to the same idea and remained grounded in the real world of street racing. However, Fast Five arrived a decade later to take the franchise in a different direction, with the familiar faces being joined by many new characters and becoming embroiled in the James Bond-esque world of spying, heists and some very elaborate stunts.
Although this trajectory saw the franchise soar in terms of its box office returns, with Furious 7’s peak of $1.5 million worldwide ensuring that the bigger and louder sequels would continue to push the franchise, and its stars, to the limits in order to outdo what came before. Now, Diesel’s Thanksgiving post on Instagram suggests that there are some worrying issues going on behind the scenes when it comes to the upcoming 11th movie, as everyone appears to want something different.
“I got universal in one ear saying we need FastX2 by March 2026! I have Concast in the other ear saying we need two movies to be the Finale! Then the writer on Fast Five sent me this image and said we need to see DOM and HOBBS resolve their differences. I just want to get back to real street racing, practical stunts… and a reunion of that beautiful brotherhood. Happy Thanksgiving…”
Can the Fast & Furious Franchise End on a High?
The problem with any popular IP is that the larger it gets, the more people become involved in its future. With the incredible amount of money that was pumped into Fast X, only to see it make a disappointing return, Universal in particular will be completely invested in ensuring that they get what they want from Fast 11. However, while it was originally a given that this would be the end of the saga, that has already changed many times.

What the heck is going on at Universal?
With clashes of egos, additional movies being added to the list of possible franchise expansions, and an inability for anyone to seemingly agree on how to move forward in the best way possible, there could be some tense times ahead for Diesel, the many stars expected to return for the new movie, its Hobbs and Reyes spinoff (if that happens), and whatever comes after that. With Fast X being a very messy affair thanks to last-minute director changes and a long-delayed production, Fast 11 does not seem like it is going to cross the finish line without its own challenges.
