Juventus sack Igor Tudor with former Italy boss tipped to take over

Juventus have sacked coach Igor Tudor after a run of eight games without a win.

The Bianconeri acted this morning in the wake of last night’s 1-0 defeat at Lazio that left them languishing in eighth place in Serie A and without a victory in any competition since September 13.

A club statement read: “Juventus FC announces that it has today relieved Igor Tudor of his duties as head coach of the men’s first team, along with his staff consisting of Ivan Javorcic, Tomislav Rogic and Riccardo Ragnacci.

“The club also announces that it has temporarily entrusted the men’s first team to Massimo Brambilla, who will be on the bench for the Juventus-Udinese match on Wednesday evening.

“The club thanks Igor Tudor and his entire staff for their professionalism and dedication over the past few months and wishes them all the best for their future careers.”

Three successive defeats spell the end for Tudor at Juventus

Tudor, who made over 100 appearances for Juventus during his playing career as a commanding centre-half, took over from Thiago Motta in March.

He made a strong initial impression, leading them to a fourth-placed finish and qualification to the Champions League.

They also started this season in positive fashion, winning their first three league games. But the wheels have come off since with five successive draws followed by three defeats in a week – against Como, Real Madrid and Lazio.

Reports in Italy suggest Luciano Spalletti, who was sacked as coach of the national team in June, and Raffaele Palladino are the leading candidates to take over.
