From‘s creators have given away three massive updates about the show’s future story, which dismisses some of the biggest theories about its mysteries.
Since season 1, From has kept viewers on their toes by dropping one mystery after another. Although the show takes time to resolve most of its main mysteries, it brilliantly captures viewers’ attention by building intrigue and tension with its immersive atmosphere and relatable character beats.
In its upcoming installment, though, From will have to start giving away answers before it eventually finishes its run. Some of its biggest questions revolve around its primary setting and the fate of its characters. Interestingly, even though viewers have endlessly theorized about how the show will answer these, it looks like From season 4 will surprise audiences.
From’s Creators Have Confirmed The Characters Are Neither In A Dream Nor In Purgatory
Since From‘s setting alone has always been its biggest mystery, viewers have come up with many theories that could explain why the show’s characters ended up there. Some viewers have speculated that the characters might actually be asleep or unconscious in the real world and merely a part of a shared dream in a central town.
Others have speculated that the characters could be dead and are trapped in purgatory. In From season 1, Father Khatri also speculated that they could all be dead, and the central town could be the afterlife or a purgatory of some sort. As convincing as these theories may seem, however, they have all been dismissed by the show’s creators in the interview below:
John Griffin and Jeff Pinkner officially confirm in the above interview that: “It’s not purgatory. It’s not a dream. They’re not dead.” Their statement dismisses three major From theories and raises many questions about what could be happening. At the same time, it also makes the show better in more ways than one.
Dismissing The 3 Theories Makes From Less Predictable & More Exciting
The speculated purgatory and dream plot lines would have been intriguing developments in the series. However, they would have made the show seem a little too predictable. Many TV shows and movies have already dabbled with similar ideas. Owing to this, From would have risked becoming too redundant and predictable if it had gone down the same route.
While only time will tell how From will eventually explain all of its strange mysteries, it now seems likely that it will bring something new to the table. This will help the show establish itself as a unique addition to the horror thriller genre, cementing that it thrives on originality rather than recycled tropes.
