Barcelona duo expected to recover from illness in time to face Real Madrid

Barcelona duo expected to recover from illness in time to face Real Madrid

According to journalist Javi Miguel of AS, Barcelona have been handed a timely boost ahead of El Clasico as Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen are both expected to recover in time for Sunday’s clash against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It must be noted that the two players were notable absentees from training earlier today due to gastroenteritis, raising initial concern within Hansi Flick’s squad.

Christensen, who had already missed the Champions League game against Olympiacos because of the same issue, was again unable to join the group.

De Jong, meanwhile, was almost certain to start against Real Madrid before illness struck.

Hansi Flick remains cautious, but reports suggest both players should be available if their recovery continues as planned.

The next 48 hours will be crucial in determining whether they can return to full training and be cleared for selection.

Nothing much to worry about

Despite these temporary concerns, Barcelona received several positive updates from the medical department.

As such, Raphinha is making excellent progress and is expected to receive medical clearance by Saturday.

If all goes well, the Brazilian winger will travel with the squad to Madrid and could be included in the matchday list.

Ferran Torres has also fully recovered from his recent hamstring problem and has trained normally with the group.

His sharpness in training has reportedly impressed Flick, and there’s even a possibility that the forward could start at the Bernabeu.

For Hansi Flick, the return of these key players could not have come at a better time. With Barcelona determined to secure a statement win over Real Madrid, having a nearly full-strength squad will be a major confidence boost.

The next few days will be decisive, but signs are pointing towards a much stronger Barcelona lineup for the Clasico.
