Who Is Starring in the Upcoming Season of ‘Tracker’?

This Is Us breakout star Justin Hartley will be back as the lone-wolf survivalist Colter Shaw, who travels the country and uses his extensive tracking skills to assist law enforcement and private citizens in finding missing people. Fiona Rene will also be returning as the feisty attorney Reenie Greene, who often steps in to help Colter get out of the many sticky situations he finds himself in. Fans went wild when Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles joined the series in a guest-starring role as Colter’s estranged brother Russell, and the actor is confirmed to appear in the first two episodes of the third season.

Two actors who will not be returning are Abby McEnany (as handler Velma) and Eric Graise (as computer expert Bobby), despite the pair being main cast members throughout the first two seasons of Tracker. Showrunner and executive producer Elwood Reid teased in an interview with TVLine that Abby and Eric’s departures will be explained in the upcoming season (likely the premiere) and that there is still a chance the duo could reappear in future installments. Reid said of the duo, “With Velma’s character, she’s going off to be with Teddy [and Bobby] seized on a good opportunity.”

What Can Fans Expect From ‘Tracker’ Season 3?

After the explosive cliffhanger in the second season finale in which Colter made the shocking discovery that his uncle Otto had pushed his father Ashton off a cliff at the behest of his own mother, the third installment will explore how the savvy survivalist copes with the world-altering news. Colter had previously believed that his estranged brother Russell (Jensen Ackles) had been the one responsible for their father’s tragic death. He will be forced to face the trauma of his past and his emotional family history, with the character navigating intricate conspiracies as he further investigates his father’s death and the reason behind it.

Supernatural staple Ackles is set to reprise his role opposite Hartley in the third season, and Colter’s relationship with both his brother and mother Mary Shaw (Wendy Crewson) will be a focal point of the latest installment. The jaw-dropping finale helps set the stage for what’s to come in Season 3. Tracker showrunner Elwood Reid revealed in an interview with TV Guide that Mary being implicated in the murder of her mother will leave Colter reeling, saying that “it’s going to be devastating.” Reid further discussed the upcoming season:

“Colter suspected that something was not wrong, but something was not right with his mother, and now he’s got confirmation of it. But the bigger question is, if you look back to the pilot, his father wasn’t a very stable or nice guy. So I think that’s a question he’s going to take into Season 3: What were the forces acting on my father to put him in such an extreme place that my mother asked this guy to help her?”

Tracker premieres on October 19, 2025, on CBS.
