Lewis Hall injury update – Likely return date made public after second hamstring scan

The left-back missed our 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest 11 days ago, with Eddie Howe revealing after the match that Hall picked up a hamstring issue during his cameo at Union SG two weeks ago.

A second scan took place on that injury this week, and it looks to be both good and bad news for the club regarding the extent of this issue.

As revealed by The Mail’s Craig Hope, it’s believed the injury will keep Hall out for another month, although there is some hope he could return for our trip to Brentford on November 9th; our final game before the next international break.

The initial update from Hope suggested Hall was targeting a return around early December, so it appears he may have got away lightly following a second scan.

Either way, it’s still a blow, seeing us lose another full-back over a busy and crucial period of the season as we bid to compete on three fronts in league, cup and Europe. However, there is some relief that it’s not a serious hamstring injury, which could’ve seen the former Chelsea talent ruled out for several months and remain out until the new year.

But, with Tino Livramento set to be out for another four to six weeks with a knee issue of his own, Newcastle will head into the next month light on left-backs, leaving Dan Burn to fill the void as best he can.

Howe could also call on Kieran Trippier to play down the left, if needed, as he once did for England under Gareth Southgate, with Emil Krafth and Malick Thiaw both able to fill in at right-back.

Discussing Hall’s injury after our 2-0 win over Forest before the international break, Howe said: “He felt his hamstring against Union, which was a real blow for us.”

“We’ve been trying to manage him back. Unfortunately he just felt something in that game. We’ve had it scanned.

“Before we get conclusive evidence of how long he’ll be out, he needs another re-scan in about 10 days.

“So it’s not going to be a short-term injury. We hope it’s not going to be a long-term injury, but we sort of don’t know yet.”
