Argentine attacker Matias Soule professed his love to the Giallorossi in a brand new interview with Il Messaggero.
“Gasperini? I think he’s telling the truth, we’re not a Champions League caliber team yet, but we want to aim to get there.”
“It’s very important for us, it’s our primary objective. We shouldn’t get too excited yet, these are the first games and we just have to focus on consistency.”
On his evolution, “Playing as a wing-back has helped me a lot to understand different situations, different styles of play, which I can now interpret during matches. Obviously, there are roles I like better, like the one I’m playing now.”
“Gasperini, after seeing me play that way with Ranieri, told me that I could be useful there in some matches too, and I have no problem with that. I’m fully available, as always.”
“The national team? I feel Argentinian, I am Argentinian. I also told this to Spalletti, whom I thank for his confidence.”
“My idea is always the same: to play for Argentina. Perhaps my agent was a little angry when he read Scaloni’s call-ups. But no one from Italy has contacted me since, and even if they did, I’d say “no thanks.”
“My idea, as always, is to play for the Seleccion. I obviously know it’s not easy because there are many strong players there. I’m obviously pleased by the interest of a strong, historic national team like the Italian one; I’m proud of it, but I’m not changing my mind. I’d like to play for the team of the country where I was born.”
“The three missed penalties vs Lille? I was angry; it was really hard to get home and try not to think about it. But I’m happy to have received everyone’s support, from Pellegrini to Mancini and Dybala. I kicked it terribly; it was way too low. If it happens again, I’ll take them again. I like taking them.”
“De Rossi? Daniele is a great person, we talk often. It’s a shame I only had him for four games, he’s the one who brought me here. When he was fired, I went through a very difficult time. You arrive in a new place, in a big city, at a big club, and the coach who wanted you leaves. I assure you, it wasn’t easy to digest.”
“Paredes? We miss Leo. The three of us were always together; he was often the one who led our Argentinian group. Without him, it’s different, even though I’m always with Paulo. We play PlayStation, and I hear from him more than my girlfriend. I don’t know if it will be his last year at Roma, but I sincerely hope he stays here for a long time.”
“I also see myself at Roma for a long time. I think it’s everyone’s dream to aspire to reach certain goals with this shirt. If I close my eyes, I imagine being here for life. I know for myself that things can change, but this is my desire.”
“Inter? I just know that last week we ran so hard, it felt like we were still in training camp. Can you believe we still have to prepare for the match? We’ll do it well in the next few days; it will be an important test to understand where we are. These are the games that tell you how much you’re worth.”
“Gasperini? Compared to Ranieri, he has a different style. He wants us to play the ball, to triangle with the center forward, and for the attackers to always be in the game and never with their backs to the goal. We’ve also worked on our postures and body positioning. We’ve now understood that we must always look forward, but this applies to everyone, even the defenders. He’s also a coach who gives you the freedom to do what you do best. Obviously, he gives you rules and instructions, but within those, you can do what you do best. Being free is fundamental for me.”
