Grasso’s Dark Hearts Betrayal in Task Episode 6 Explained

Grasso’s Dark Hearts Betrayal in Task Episode 6 Explained

Warning! Spoilers for Task episode 6 ahead!

Task episode 6 revealed a bit more about why Anthony Grasso (Fabien Frankel) is working with the Dark Hearts, and, more importantly, who got him started. Tom and the FBI became aware that someone on the task force was passing information on to the motorcycle gang early in their investigation. Then, Task episode 5 revealed that the informant was Grasso. Still, there’s a lot we don’t know.

Grasso’s betrayal in Task came to a violent head in episode 6, when Lizzie (Alison Oliver) was killed during a confrontation with the Dark Hearts. It was evident that Grasso had genuinely cared for Lizzie, so he took her death extremely hard. The moment was all the more tragic since we, the audience, knew that Grasso was the one responsible. It wasn’t until later in Task episode 6 that we learned why.

Grasso & His Boss Have Been Colluding With The Dark Hearts For Years

Before being assigned to Tom Bradis’ (Mark Ruffalo) task force, Grasso was a detective. We met his colleagues, including his boss Chief Drosey (Raphael Sbarge), in an earlier episode of Task. In episode 6, Dorsey made a return, seemingly checking in on Grasso following the catastrophic run-in with the Dark Hearts. This is when we learned that Dorsey, too, is an informant for the gang.

Tom discovered in Task episode 6 that Grasso had previously worked on a team that was consistently thwarted in their efforts against the Dark Hearts. It was eventually suspected that someone was tipping off the criminals. This was several years before the events of Task, so we know that Dorsey and Grasso have been colluding with the Dark Hearts for a long time.

Though we don’t yet know how this operation got started, the dynamic between Dorsey and Grasso suggests that it was the chief who first became a dirty cop. He then pulled Grasso into the operation as well. The primary motivator was likely financial gain. However, there were signs earlier in Task that Grasso is fairly jaded against corrupt police. This might have been an “if you can’t beat them, join them” situation that got out of hand.

Will Grasso Finally Turn On The Dark Hearts After Lizzie’s Death?

Grasso put on a brave face when Tom essentially promised to bring him down in Task episode 6. However, we know from his scene with Dorsey that he is extremely shaken by Lizzie’s death. Tom is entirely right that she would still be alive if Grasso hadn’t sabotaged the FBI’s efforts to catch Cliff in the park. This is a truth that Grasso knows as well.

This crime thriller series has made it clear that characters can’t just betray the Dark Hearts without suffering the consequences. Dorsey, though not necessarily a gang member himself, seems just as dangerous. Grasso won’t have an easy time, whether he decides to turn against the Dark Hearts or not. It will all come down to his conscience. Hopefully, Task will end with Grasso making the right decision.
