‘007 First Light’ Adds MCU Star Gemma Chan to James Bond Game Cast

Gemma Chan, star of Marvel’s Eternals and also Captain Marvel, has joined the next installment of the James Bond franchise. No, she isn’t starring in the elusive Amazon reboot (as far as we know), but she has lined up an exciting new role in 007 First Light, an upcoming video game from Hitman developer IO Interactive. She takes on the role of Dr. Selina Tan, MI6’s Head of Tactical Simulation, a new character specifically created for the highly anticipated project, though she will appear alongside several familiar faces in the star-studded ensemble led by Dexter: Original Sin actor Patrick Gibson as a new, young version of Bond… James Bond.

Chan is lending both her voice and likeness to the character, who is described as “a brilliant and passionate academic with a background in psychology and game theory whose role at MI6 is critical in Bond’s journey to earning the 00 status in 007 First Light.” The announcement video, released during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show broadcast, offers a further look at the thrilling espionage action-adventure game, dubbed a “Bond origin story,” before revealing Chan’s character, Selina Tan. She appears to be working at Q Branch, the research and development division of the British Secret Service, and is eagerly awaiting any questions Bond has for her.

Alastair Mackenzie steps in as the head of Q Branch, while Priyanga Burford portrays the ever-stoic M. The starry ensemble also includes Kiera Lester as Miss Moneypenny, Lennie James as Bond’s mentor John Greenway, and Noémie Nakai as the mysterious Miss Roth — but while the cast of 007 First Light continues to expand, the film franchise remains in flux. Some fans have wondered whether the choice of actors, particularly Gibson’s casting as Bond, might offer some intriguing hints as to the eventual direction of the big screen reboot. However, it’s important to note that the game isn’t part of the film canon, as IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak previously confirmed to IGN that 007 First Light is a “standalone, reimagined interpretation.”
