The end of Alien: Earth is nearly upon us, but fans have already been treated to one of the most iconic deaths in the franchise.
During an interview with ScreenRant, Dana Gonzales discussed directing the seventh episode of Alien: Earth Season 1 and bringing the chestburster scene to life. The scene in question has Arthur Sylvia (David Rysdahl) die a gruesome death when a baby xenomorph bursts out of his chest. For Gonzales and crew, it was important to get it done right, not only for the fans, but for new audiences as well.
“It’s one of the most iconic deaths of all cinema, or in the top five, and it was important that the chestburster scene was super important to me, and to everybody. Those are the iconic moments that I talk about a lot in interviews. We have the diehard fans, and we have a lot of new fans, people that have never seen Alien. So, that’s the first time they’re going to see that type of experience, of a chestburster coming out of, and it’s someone that they really love. They’re just like, ‘Oh my God, he’s a good guy. He was trying to do the right thing!’ Which is even more impactful than Alien, because you didn’t really care about John Hurt in that way, right? But so, yeah, that was super important to get that right, and to make that really work. And I think it really does. And like I said, I think having Arthur be the victim, it just really impacts it.”
More to come.
