James Bond fans are desperate to know who will replace Daniel Craig as the next 007. But, before we can find that out, the script has to be written. Denis Villeneuve got the entire fan base excited when the Dune director revealed that he will direct the next James Bond movie. Things got even more exciting when Peaky Blinders and Rogue Heroes creator, Steven Knight, confirmed that he will pen the script for the next movie. The pairing is the team-up that fans didn’t know they needed. And the script’s development appears to be moving ahead well, according to Knight. But, even though Daniel Craig’s version of James Bond is arguably the best (let the debate ensue), Steven Knight is going to re-write the formula for the upcoming reboot… if, only slightly.
Speaking to Radio Times, Steven Knight addressed the new James Bond movie’s script. The film, which remains untitled, hasn’t been written yet. But Knight is gearing up to sit behind his laptop… or pen and paper… or typewriter… or however he chooses to write (he seems like a typewriter kind of guy). But, just because he hasn’t put pen to paper yet, he knows where he wants to take the franchise, and it will be comforting and surprising to fans at the same time. He explained:
“It’s fantastic to be invited to do it. I can’t wait to get started. I’m hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that’s the same but different, and better, stronger and bolder.”
Steven Knight has already established himself as a phenomenal writer, thanks to his work on Peaky Blinders, Rogue Heroes, and the upcoming series, House of Guinness. Obviously, as the next James Bond movie’s script hasn’t yet been written, no plot details have been revealed.
James Bond Fans Will Be Waiting a While for Casting Updates
As Steven Knight is preparing to write the 26th James Bond movie, fans are obviously wondering if the screenwriter has a specific actor in mind. However, Knight confirmed that he’s viewing Bond as a blank canvas, without putting a specific face to the 007 title. In fact, it will be some time before fans learn who will be playing the next James Bond. Per a previous report on the future of the franchise, the new James Bond won’t be unveiled until the script has been finalized and the film enters production. More recently, that casting update received another nail in its coffin. A new report confirmed that the next James Bond movie is currently eyeing a 2028 release. Fans always knew it would be a while before the film hit theaters. But 2028 feels like a lifetime away, even if it’s just a few short years.
With that in mind, fans continue to cast their dream 007 on social media. Henry Cavill remains a solid fan favorite, with Idris Elba, Taron Egerton, Tom Holland, and Jacob Elordi being fan favorites.
