“It’s f*****g murder!” – Alexis Mac Allister details incredible Mo Salah dedication – Liverpool FC

Alexis Mac Allister has told an incredible story of Mo Salah‘s discipline, while highlighting the intensity of the Premier League schedule.

Liverpool supporters know just how much work Salah puts in to stay injury-free and maintain his elite athletic state.

What many don’t know, though, is the details of just how dedicated he is to staying at the top of his game.

Writing in The Player’s Tribune, Mac Allister gave an insight into what it is like trying to compete with the Egyptian.

“The pressure at this level is so intense,” the Argentine said.

“To me, it (the Premier League) is the hardest trophy in the world to win. Harder than the Champions League. The Premier League is nine months. Mentally, physically, emotionally… It’s f***ing murder.

“Look at Mo, for example. You cannot imagine how hard he pushes himself to stay at the top in this league.

“Mo, he’s hilarious. For a few weeks, I actually tried to get to the gym before him, but it was impossible. He was always there already, sweating.

“One day, I asked him, ‘But Mo … when do you sleep?’

“He said, ‘I don’t like it when I get more than seven hours. I feel tired.’

“Hahaha.

“’You feel tired?’

“’Yeah, it’s too much. You only need six-and-a-half.’

While it is possible to do too much exercise in the gym for your specific needs, Salah has managed to get the balance just right to maintain his speed and surprising strength as a winger.

Mac Allister continued: “He would be in the gym for an hour and someone would say, ‘Mo, are you finished? Let’s go eat.’

“’No, no. I just did my abs. Now I have to really work out.’

“When I first arrived, I tried to compete with him. I thought, ‘OK, the guy is 31. I’m 24. Let’s do some abs’.

“Damn… I think I did three sessions with Mo before I gave up. I would wake up the next morning, and I was so sore I could barely sit up in bed. Hahahah.

“Mo sets the tone for everyone at Liverpool. He is the best professional I’ve ever seen. He’s a monster.”

Part of the not-so-hidden secret to Salah’s success is his consistency.

Salah has made 403 appearances for the Reds in the eight years he has been at the club, 69 more than Andy Robertson, who has played the second-most since the summer of 2017.

The No. 11 has never been out for longer than a month through injury, and barring the 2023/24 season, Salah hasn’t missed more than four games in a season at Liverpool due to fitness problems.

While injury problems sometimes can’t be helped, young professionals, take a leaf out of Mo’s book!
