Netflix’s newest sitcom, Leanne, has proven itself to be a success with viewers and serves as the perfect replacement for Chuck Lorre’s similar series, Mom, which ran for eight seasons. Since 1984, Lorre has served as the creator and writer of many successful TV sitcoms, with some of his most recognized shows including Dharma & Greg and Two and a Half Men.
In 2013, Lorre released his comedy-drama series, Mom, starring Anna Faris and Allison Janney, which follows a mother and daughter struggling to reconnect after both endured years of substance abuse. The series was ranked as one of the best sitcoms ever made. In 2021, Mom was canceled after eight seasons, but Lorre’s new Netflix sitcom has proven itself as the perfect replacement.
Leanne Is The Perfect Mom Replacement Show
Leanne Premiered On Netflix In July 2025
Chuck Lorre’s Netflix sitcom, Leanne, follows the titular lead character, as she discovers her husband’s infidelity with a younger woman and her struggles with menopause. The cast of Leanne includes acclaimed comedian Leanne Morgan, Kristen Johnston, Celia Weston, and Blake Clark, and as the series progresses, Leanne learns how to adjust to the unexpected changes in her life with the help of her family.
Since Leanne’s Netflix premiere on July 31, 2025, the series has been widely praised for its plot, performances, and its humorous and modern depiction of divorce and family issues; it is currently ranked as one of the top 10 most-viewed shows on Netflix (via Tudum). Leanne currently has a critical score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an audience score of 91%.
In an interview with TV Line, Chuck Lorre spoke about how Leanne and Mom are similar in how they explore the theme of starting over later in life, stating that both shows have “the element of hope that you can crawl out of the ashes and start again.” Leanne’s exploration of family values and moving on make the Netflix series the perfect replacement for Mom.
Leanne’s Global Success Is Impressive But Not Surprising
Chuck Lorre Has Seen Great Success With His TV Shows
Leanne has quickly risen to become one of Netflix’s most popular and most-watched sitcoms in recent years, which isn’t surprising, considering Chuck Lorre’s successful track record with TV. Lorre has been widely praised for his creation of highly popular comedy dramas, including The Big Bang Theory (2007-2019) and its two spinoff series Young Sheldon and George and Mandy’s First Marriage.
Each of Lorre’s different TV shows is able to provide the right amount of humor for viewers, while also addressing serious issues including family, relationships, and death. This is most notable in how Young Sheldon explores the aftermath of George Cooper’s tragic death, and how each family member copes with their loss in various ways.
Lorre continues this trend throughout Leanne, as the lead character attempts to understand the dissolution of her marriage, but is given love and support from her family in an overly dramatic and hilarious manner throughout the series. Having the right blend of important themes, such as comedy, drama, and family, helps solidify Leanne’s future on Netflix and as the perfect replacement for Mom.
