Jenna Ortega Brings ‘Wednesday’ Back With Huge Chart-Topping Season 2 Debut on Netflix

Jenna Ortega Brings ‘Wednesday’ Back With Huge Chart-Topping Season 2 Debut on Netflix

Netflix subscribers have made an unprecedented pivot from ridiculous raunchiness to dread and gloom as Wednesday returned to the streamer on – ironically – Wednesday to bring woe to The Hunting Wives. Just a day after the risqué hit story of obsession, seduction, and murder jumped back up the Netflix chart, Tim Burton’s Addams Family series debuted Season 2 and spread its brand of misery all over the number one spot.

Season 1 of Wednesday introduced the world to a new version of the Addams Family, with Jenna Ortega taking on the titular role of the dour daughter of Morticia and Gomez. The series very quickly became one of the most watched series on the platform, and with Season 2 landing higher reviews than its predecessor, it is not surprising to see the dark fantasy reclaiming the chart crown with ease.

While The Hunting Wives, with its graphic and frequent sex scenes and over-the-top melodrama, was a series that proved to be impossible to resist among Netflix subscribers, the Brittany Snow and Dermot Mulroney-starring series seemed set for a new bout of success after leaping nine positions but unfortunately was no match for Wednesday’s long-awaited comeback. The real question was never whether Wednesday could make a gloriously macabre return after three years, but if it could manage to be an even bigger success than its predecessor.

‘Wednesday’s Release Strategy Is Guaranteed To Keep It at the Top of the Netflix Chart

Netflix has continued to avoid weekly release schedules for its biggest shows, but instead has opted for split seasons, or in the case of the upcoming final season of Stranger Things, a two-part release and a final episode. While the first season of Wednesday was released as one drop, fans who have binged their way through the new episodes now have a little wait to see how the season’s story plays out.

Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 will be released on September 3, a month after Part 1, and will consist of another four episodes entitled “Let Me Woe You Again,” and a three-part finale, “The Final Woe Down.” Of course, with Season 3 already green-lit, we know that whatever befalls Wednesday, she will be back again for more spooky fun, and hopefully it won’t take three years this time.

Wednesday may have been an unprecedented hit for Netflix, but for Jenna Ortega, the unexpected and swift success of the series in 2022 caused her a lot of anxiety and made her desperately unhappy. She told Harper’s Bazaar:

“To be quite frank, after the show and trying to figure everything out, I was an unhappy person. After the pressure, the attention — as somebody who’s quite introverted, that was so intense and so scary. I feel like being a bully is very popular right now. Having been on the wrong side of the rumor mill was incredibly eye-opening.”

Since her last time playing Wednesday, Ortega has seen her popularity soar, and that has led to several big movie roles, including her reteaming with director Tim Burton on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Thanks to Wednesday’s two-part release, we can expect to see the actress be the topic of conversation for several weeks to come, and this time, she will be a little more prepared for it.
