Liverpool have a busy August ahead, with an opportunity to win the Community Shield and starting their Premier League title defence.
It has quickly come around to the start of another season for Liverpool, one full of promise after a statement summer in the transfer window, which does not close until September 1.
It would be remiss not to mention the tributes that will be ongoing for Diogo Jota throughout the campaign, with his teammates to don a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their new kits.
With the 2025/26 season upon us, let’s take a look at Liverpool’s key dates throughout August.
August 4 – Athletic double-header (H)
Liverpool’s pre-season schedule then concludes with a double-header at Anfield as La Liga’s Athletic Club visit. The matches will kick off at 5pm (BST) and then 8pm.
A reminder if you have a ticket to the match, it grants you access to both friendlies – but no entry will be permitted solely for the 8pm kickoff.
This will be the first time Liverpool will play in their new Adidas home kit.
August 10 – Community Shield
It is then time to head to Anfield South, with Wembley the backdrop for the Community Shield meeting against Crystal Palace after their FA Cup triumph.
The match kicks off at 3pm (BST) and the final day clash between the two teams last season offered a welcome look at the atmosphere we can expect.
Liverpool last won the Community Shield in 2022, with a 3-1 win over Man City.
August 15 – Bournemouth (H)
The Premier League champions will start their title defence under the lights at Anfield, with Bournemouth the visitors – an early reunion for Milos Kerkez!
We can expect to see plenty of official debuts from new signings.
The Cherries’ defence has been stripped this summer after sanctioning moves across Europe, which will make them a different proposition to last season.
A minute of silence and a special fan mosaic will precede kickoff in honour of Jota.
August 25 – Newcastle (A)
This could be a tasty meeting at St James’ Park amid a summer of Alexander Isak transfer talk, which many of the Liverpool persuasion will hope means the Swede is in a red shirt!
As this match will be played on a Monday evening, there is quite the gap between the first two games of the season for Slot’s men – an invaluable training period ahead of a hectic season ahead.
August 28 – Champions League draw
The league phase draw precedes the start of the tournament in mid-September, with Liverpool to discover their eight different opponents – half at home and half away.
Liverpool finished top of the league phase last season but it remains to be seen how Slot will change his approach after being knocked out at the first time of asking in the last 16.
How do you want to see the Reds approach the league phase this season?
August 31 – Arsenal (H)
Closing out the month is the visit of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who will continue to hold hopes of being in the title discussion – though any trophy may do after five seasons without.
It promises to be another special atmosphere to kick off the season, and we would not be surprised to see more banners like the one pictured above.
This is the final game to be played before the transfer window closes and the first international break of the season.
