July 28 – The growth of the international women’s game was confirmed with yet another sell-out crowd for the WEuro 2025 final between England and Spain last night of 34,203, taking the overall attendance to 657,291.
While the professional women’s club game in Europe has failed to ignite a major increase in attendances (Women’s Super League attendances were slightly lower in the 2024-25 season compared to the previous year), the international game has taken a major step forward in Switzerland.
The 2025 WEuro overall attendance in Switzerland was 82,416 higher than the 2022 WEuro figure of 574,875.
In total a remarkable 29 out of 31 matches in Switzerland were sold out. While Switzerland is expensive to visit, the match tickets were sensibly priced starting at CHF25. Ticket and hospitality revenue across the tournament generated an estimated €15 million.
Nadine Kessler, UEFA women’s football director, said: “Expectations were high for this tournament – and UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 has delivered beyond all of them. Every question asked before the opening match has been answered loudly, proudly and repeatedly. Now, it ends as it began – with history in the making… This tournament has set a new benchmark and remains our North-Star for an ambitious future.”
UEFA highlighted key milestones:
- UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 was the best attended quarter-final stage ever with 112,535 spectators.
- The highest attendance at a Women’s EURO quarter-final match was achieved twice, first at Spain vs Switzerland in Bern with 29,734 in attendance, then the next day in Basel where 34,128 attended the France vs Germany match.
- France vs Germany is also the highest attended Women’s EURO quarter-final match not involving the host nation.
- Approximately 35% of tickets were purchased by international fans and over 160 nationalities are represented among the overall ticket holders.
- More than 95,000 fans have joined the pre-match fan walks, including 20,000 in Bern ahead of the Switzerland vs Spain match.
The 2025 WEuro has broken multiple previsou financial records. Prize money more than doubled from €16 million to €41million. England received €5 million for their win, while Spain earned €4.2 million. Beaten semi-finalists, Germany and Italy, received €3.25 million and €3.2 million. With Swiss Ramble estimating that the WEuro will generate €128 million (more than twice the 2022 edition), the biggest revenue line is media rights that have generated about €72 million.
UEFA has more than 65 broadcast partners worldwide in more than 165 territories. The cumulative live audience was more than 400 million and a cumulative all programme audience in excess of 500 million, said UEFA.
The finals were also the most viewed and engaged with Women’s EURO ever on UEFA social media.
“The Women’s EURO platforms have had 20.7 million engagements so far and over half a billion views across all posts – both significantly higher than the last tournament,” said UEFA.
“Furthermore, over 500,000 new followers have been added across all UEFA social media featuring the following follower milestones reached during the tournament:
- 2 million on Facebook
- 500,000 on Instagram
- 100,000 on Threads
- 95,000 on WhatsApp Channel”
