USMNT to kick off 2025 in January Camp friendly against Venezuela

USMNT to kick off 2025 in January Camp friendly against Venezuela

The United States Men’s National Team will begin 2025 in the Sunshine State. Just before the start of the USMNT’s match against Jamaica on Monday evening, U.S. Soccer announced that the team would play Venezuela on January 18th at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm ET on TNT, Telemundo, Universo, Max, and Peacock.

The annual January Camp falls outside a FIFA international window, so it’s expected that head coach Mauricio Pochettino will use the time to bring in mostly younger players from Major League Soccer to evaluate them. It’s also possible that players on European teams that have a winter break could be called in for the camp. It kicks off an important 2025 for the USMNT, where they will play in the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals and the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. Those mark the final competitions for the USMNT before they co-host the 2026 World Cup.

“We are looking forward to the camp in January and the opportunity to get to know many of the MLS players and see all the potential talent we have here in the United States,” USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino said in a statement. “We are happy to bring the National Team back to South Florida and utilize the great facilities of Inter Miami for this important moment as we continue to build towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

The USMNT is 3W-1L-2D all-time against the Vinotintos, with the last meeting coming in Cincinnati in June 2019. There, the USMNT lost 3-0 in a final tune-up match for the 2019 Gold Cup. The USWNT hope that they can get the win this time down in Fort Lauderdale, where they are 4W-0L-1D since 1980.
