Barry Keoghan has gone from relative unknown to incredible Hollywood talent in a few short years. Having appeared in Marvel’s Eternals, had a very brief appearance as Joker in The Batman, and licked a bath plughole in ways we don’t want to think about in Saltburn, the actor’s new movie, Bring Them Down, has just released a blood-soaked and brutal look at his violent revenge thriller.
Movies set in rural farming environments don’t usually lend themselves to the world of tense thrillers, but Bring Them Down appears to be breaking away from the idea of flat-caps and shepherds in Christopher Andrew’s directorial debut, which also stars Poor Things’ Christopher Abbott. The movie centers on Abbott’s character of Michael, who is the last son of a farming family living with his angry and cantankerous father, Ray. While hiding a secret from his past, Michael is caught in a conflict with another local farming family, led by patriarch Gary and his son Jack (Keoghan). As old wounds are opened, things escalate in a chain of events that changes both families forever.
Distributed by MUBI, who recently scored a huge win with Demi Moore’s body horror satire The Substance, Bring Them Down will be released in the UK & Ireland on February 7, 2025. There is currently no release information available for international markets including the U.S.
Barry Keoghan Recently Addressed a Joker Return
While Bring Them Down seems like a brutal departure from some of Keoghan’s other projects, he could yet bring one of the most disturbing versions of Batman villain the Joker to life in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe. Having been teased in the film moments of the first movie, there has been a lot of uncertainty about the Clown Prince of Gotham’s place in The Batman Part II. Recently, Keoghan addressed his possible return, saying:
“It’s a big one, but I am going to say that, if the opportunity came about, yes, I’d love to explore, and given the opportunity, really dive into it. But I have not been contacted, I’ve not heard anything.”
Previously, it was suggested that after the success of The Penguin, DC Studios were wanting to move ahead with another spinoff series focusing on Joker, but that was debunked by James Gunn. It seems that for now, Keoghan’s return to the world of DC remains unclear, but it is hard to imagine that the fleeting tease was done without any intention of giving the character a more prominent role somewhere down the line.
