‘The Toxic Avenger’ Reveals Cinemark’s Toxic Waste Barrel Popcorn Bucket

Popcorn buckets have been getting more and more elaborate in recent years, and more expensive. While The Fantastic Four’s $80 Galactus bucket will break your wallet, The Toxic Avenger’s vessel of choice will really get you wasted – toxic wasted.

Yes, in what is possibly a no-brainer movie, Macon Blair’s reboot of the Troma Entertainment franchise is giving fans the chance to own a toxic waste barrel of their very own to munch their popcorn out of, and it looks fantastic.

It’s been a while, but Winston Gooze is finally here!

Of course, you don’t need to buy a popcorn bucket to enjoy a movie, but for those who love to collect the vast array of collectibles out there, The Toxic Avenger’s design is pretty flawless, from its weathered outer design, to its radioactive green interior bearing the movie’s logo. Who knows, maybe your popcorn will end up turning you into an unconventional superhero?

‘The Toxic Avenger’ Movie Has Become the Ultimate Underdog

The Toxic Avenger will not exactly be following the story of the original 80s movie, but it certainly has the feel of a story about a put-upon underdog who comes good against overwhelming odds – something Macon Blair and the team behind the film know a lot about after the Troma-tic (sorry) time it has had from wrap to release.

The remake of The Toxic Avenger seemed to be charging ahead two years ago. Filming wrapped, the cast and creative team were incredibly happy with the result, and the movie received a premiere at Fantastic Fest. The reaction to that premiere was nothing short of spectacular, with 25 Rotten Tomatoes reviews resulting in a 92% approval score – for context, this is 22% higher than the original 1985 movie.

But then, things went a little screwy. No one wanted to distribute the film, and for a long while it looked like the movie could end up in that graveyard where completed movies go to be buried for tax write-offs and various other reasons that everyone pretends to understand. Even Peter Dinklage had to vent his frustration at one point, telling ComicBook in August 2024:

“No, I’m not a producer on it. I don’t know. I do want it to get out there into the world because it was a really big hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and Macon Blair, the writer/director who is also in The Thicket … He’s incredible. He’s one of my favorite people and favorite artists. So hopefully it will have its day in the toxic sun.”

Thankfully, Cineverse – who also distributed last year’s Terrifer 3 – stepped into the void to ensure that The Toxic Avenger will, as Dinklage put it, have its day in the toxic sun after all. So now, fans have just over a month until the movie releases in cinemas, and it potentially becomes one of the most successful unrated film releases of all time. After everything it took to get the movie on the big screen, that is the least it deserves.
