Liverpool & AC Milan pre-season form
Arne Slot’s side have made a flying start to pre-season, beating Preston North End 3–1 and Stoke City 5–0 in behind-closed-doors fixtures. The level of opposition now rises as Liverpool face AC Milan in the first match of their Asia Tour 2025.
After this game, the Reds will play Yokohama F. Marinos before returning to Anfield for two home friendlies against Athletic Club on August 4. The pre-season schedule concludes with the Community Shield against Crystal Palace, ahead of the Premier League opener against Bournemouth on August 15.
AC Milan head into this clash having been beaten 1-0 by Arsenal earlier in the week thanks to Bukayo Saka’s goal. Massimiliano Allegri has returned to the Milan dugout and is using these summer friendlies to reshape his team. After facing Liverpool, the Rossoneri will also play Leeds United and Chelsea before the start of the Serie A 2025/26 season.
Team news
Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giorgi Mamardashvili have already made their official debuts in pre-season. Big names including Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson Becker have now joined the squad for the Asia Tour after missing the two previous fixtures. However, Mac Allister looks as though he could miss the game as he continues his recovery from injury and hasn’t yet returned to team training.
Transfer speculation around Luis Díaz could see the winger rested, while new signings Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike could potentially get their first minutes in a Liverpool shirt. As usual in pre-season, expect heavy rotation and plenty of opportunities for all the players.
Allegri’s Milan squad is still taking shape, with the Rossoneri already losing Tijjani Reijnders and Theo Hernández this summer. Saturday’s match will be Milan’s second pre-season outing, and new signings Samuele Ricci and Luka Modric could feature.
Predicted lineups
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Bradley, Konaté, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Jones; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Núñez
AC Milan (3-5-2): Torriani; Tomori, Thiaw, Pavlovic; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Ricci, Bondo, Bartesaghi; Pulisic; Leão
