Fans of the V/H/S franchise, we have got some great news for you. In what has become an annual tradition, this year we’re getting another V/H/S movie. On October 3, 2025, Shudder subscribers will get the chance to stream V/H/S/Halloween, the latest installment in the found footage horror franchise created by Brad Miska in 2012.
Per the announcement by Variety, the film will be streaming exclusively on Shudder, and will feature segments directed by filmmakers from all sides of the horror spectrum:
- Bryan M. Ferguson (Pumpkin Guts)
- Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks, Adult Swim Yule Log)
- Micheline Pitt-Norman & R.H. Norman (Cosmetic)
- Alex Ross Perry (Her Smell, Queen of Earth)
- Paco Plaza (REC, Verónica)
- Anna Zlokovic (Appendage)
There are still no details about the segments. All we can assume from the title is that they will revolve around the festivities of Halloween. To date, none of the V/H/S entries have centered around a holiday. Themes have included a specific year in which the segments take place, and then last year, V/H/S/Beyond heavily featured a sci-fi element. If this becomes a tradition, and if V/H/S/Halloween does well, Christmas could be next.
The ‘V/H/S’ Franchise Has Been a Launchpad for Several Horror Visionaries
Ever since the franchise had its first release in 2012, it has become a powerhouse for new horror filmmakers who are fortunate enough to get this opportunity to display their work. They have joined horror auteurs like David Bruckner, Ti West, Timo Tjahjanto, and others in a collective vision where the priority is to land a solid horror approach.

The Longevity of the V/H/S Franchise and Rise of Analog Horror
Retro-style horror stories have become a new staple of the genre, but analog horror has gone beyond the movie screen and its impact is unmistakable.
The V/H/S series has explored different territories, always staying within the walls of analog horror, and while the results have varied, it remains a consistent horror franchise with a cult following that’s strong enough to keep the series going. In terms of critical reception, the lowest-rated is V/H/S: Viral, which holds a 32% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The top-rated entries are V/H/S/94 and V/H/S/Beyond, which boast 90% scores each.
V/H/S/Halloween is the eighth film in the found footage series that has also expanded into two feature film spin-offs and a “social media miniseries.” Miska, co-founder of Bloody Disgusting and now a film producer, has been behind the V/H/S series from the start.
