Spider-Man fans have had an incredible decade with Tom Holland’s adventures in the MCU and the near-perfect Spider-Verse movies from Sony Animation, but the latter of these has brought some frustration thanks to the length of time between the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, and now Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse arriving in 2027. What is more, is that it looks like the film was just pushed back again to another new date.
Following the huge success of Across the Spider-Verse, everyone wanted to see the conclusion of the trilogy to arrive quicker than the five-year wait between the first two movies. However, after an initial belief that Beyond the Spider-Verse would be released in 2026, fans were disappointed when the movie eventually landed on a June 4, 2027, release date. The latest update (via Variety) has revealed that the highly anticipated sequel has now been pushed back by another three weeks, and will arrive on June 25, 2027.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ will take fans back to the roots of the MCU
The reason behind this latest shift in release date is reportedly down to Sony’s attempts to capitalize on summer break in the U.S. The original June 4 release would have seen just 65% of the country’s school-aged children being in their vacation period. The new date sees that go up to 100%.
‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Can Be the Box Office Winner Sony’s Marvel Franchise Needs
It is not unfair to say that Sony Pictures’ recent attempts to cash-in on the success of their joint Spider-Man venture with Marvel Studios have not gone quite to plan. While the MCU’s outings of Tom Holland in Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home have grown with every installment, Sony’s live-action Spider-Man villain movies have been on a downward spiral except for the Venom trilogy.
However, their animated Spider-Verse franchise has been every bit as successful as the likes of Morbius and Madame Web have been huge disappointments. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse grossed over $384 million in 2018 and picked up the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse could not repeat the awards glory (although it was nominated, losing out to The Boy and the Heron) but almost doubled its box office with a worldwide haul of $690 million.
The journey of Beyond the Spider-Verse has been full of delays, starting with the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023, which prevented the movie’s voice cast from recording their lines. The original plan was to have the third movie ready for release in 2024, but the delays caused by the strike saw it be pushed to a June 2025 release. When this date too became unachievable, and with Marvel Studios releasing the MCU’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day in June 2026, there was no option but to push it back to a 2027 release date.
Now, with June 25, 2027, becoming the latest date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to bring one of the greatest Spider-Man stories ever told to a conclusion, fans will be hoping that this is the last delay that the movie will receive on its long and troubled journey to cinemas.
