Johnny Cardoso, Aidan Morris to miss USMNT-Jamaica second leg showdown

Mauricio Pochettino will be down two of his midfielders for Monday’s CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal second leg showdown vs. Jamaica.

Johnny Cardoso and Aidan Morris will miss the second leg in St. Louis due to respective injuries. Cardoso will miss the match due to a left hamstring strain while Morris is sidelined to a knee sprain.

Cardoso was substituted in the 21st minute of the USMNT’s 1-0 first leg win in Kingston on Thursday. The Real Betis midfielder missed the October window through injury and now will have to overcome a new issue when he returns to Spain.

The 23-year-old has earned 18 caps to date with the USMNT and overall has made 15 combined appearances for Real Betis in four separate competitions this season.

Morris, 23, made the move to English Football League Championship side Middlesbrough this summer from the Columbus Crew. The two-time MLS Cup winner jumped right into Michael Carrick’s squad this season, logging 17 appearances and over 1,300 minutes to date.

He’s earned nine USMNT caps to date since debuting in January 2023.

Both players will head back to their respective clubs to continue rehabilitation and no injury replacements will be made on the roster.

The USMNT holds a one-goal aggregate lead in the two-legged series, seeking advancement to their fourth-straight CNL semifinal.
