Official: Barcelona youngster completes Granada loan switch

Barcelona have now made it official that their 21-year-old goalkeeper, Ander Astralaga, will spend the next season on loan at Granada. The deal will keep him at the club until the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Granada shared their excitement about welcoming Astralaga, saying they are happy to have him on board and wish him all the best in his new chapter.

“Granada Club de Futbol and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the loan of goalkeeper Ander Astralaga until the end of the 2025-26 season.

“The Club welcomes Astralaga and wishes him the best of luck in his new role as a red-and-white player,” read a statement from Granada.

A keeper with high potential

Astralaga found himself in a tough spot at Barcelona. After Barça Atletic got relegated to the Second Division, he could not stay with the reserve team.

He also had no place in the first team, which already has four goalkeepers fighting for spots, namely, Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Inaki Pena.

With this situation, Astralaga needed a chance to get regular playing time, and Granada offered him that opportunity.

Astralaga’s journey with Barcelona started back in 2018 when he arrived from Athletic Club’s youth system. He joined Barça’s Cadete A team before moving up to the youth levels.

In March 2022, he made his debut with Barça Atletic, helping the team win 2-1 against Betis Deportivo.

Since then, he has balanced his time between playing games with the reserve team and getting called up to train with the first team.

Even though he has often trained with Hansi Flick’s first-team squad, he has not had the chance to play in any official match for Barcelona. However, he did get on the pitch during pre-season last year, coming on for 30 minutes in a friendly against Manchester City.
