The signature power system of the One Piece universe is the Devil Fruits, which grant special abilities to those who consume them and are named after what are said to be incarnations of the Sea Devil. Although there are many devil fruits, some stand out for their unique abilities instead of the one who possesses them making a difference.
Monkey D. Luffy has met numerous Devil Fruit users throughout One Piece‘s story. Some Devil Fruits stand out for the unfairness of their powers and how dangerous their abilities would be if used more effectively or on another user. While it’s difficult to compare them, there are some broken Devil Fruits in One Piece that felt like cheating.
Hobby-Hobby Fruit (Hobi Hobi no Mi)
Sugar’s Hobby-Hobby Fruit can turn a person into a toy after a single touch. After transforming, they are subjected to absolute obedience. But the most terrifying thing is that their existence before becoming a toy is erased from everyone’s memory. Erasing someone from the memory of all living beings is what makes it a powerful Devil Fruit.
However, its only weakness is that if Sugar dies or faints, those who have been turned into toys regain their original form and memories. While it is not a Devil Fruit suitable for combat, it would be an extremely valuable power in the hands of someone with great physical strength and mobility.
Op-Op Fruit (Ope Ope no Mi)
With the Op-Op Fruit, Trafalgar Law can create a special barrier called ROOM, which functions like an operating room, where he can freely modify anything within its range. Inside the ROOM, Law’s Devil Fruit can slice bodies in half, steal someone’s heart, and even switch minds and bodies of others, granting him a greater range of action.
After awakening the Op-Op Fruit, Law is no longer as restricted as before, being able to apply a ROOM to a specific object like his sword and launch it from a distance, as demonstrated in his fight against Big Mom and Blackbeard. In addition to its multiple applications, Law can also make someone immortal in exchange for his own life.
Age-Age Fruit (Toshi Toshi no Mi)
Bonney’s Age-Age Fruit allows her to access any distorted future version, both her own and that of anyone she touches. Although Bonney initially believed the scope of her powers was limited to altering her age and that of others, during the Egghead Arc, she discovered the infinite possibilities of her Devil Fruit.
Bonney didn’t eat a Devil Fruit, but her powers were the result of an experiment conducted by Saint Saturn on her mother before she was born. Saturn wanted to test transmitting the power of a Devil Fruit to a baby. Bonney’s Age-Age Fruit, aside from its time limitation, is one of the most practical in the series.
Bonney can access any future she imagines, with the exception that she cannot transform into one she knows is impossible. Even though her imagination will be limited as she gets older, Bonney is able to fantasize about any possible future and make it a reality, even transforming into Nika.
Glint-Glint Fruit (Pika Pika no Mi)
The Glint-Glint Fruit possessed by Admiral Borsalino (Kizaru) allows him to manipulate light and convert his body into it to move and attack at an incredible speed. Kizaru can also fire light-based laser attacks, forcing the Straw Hat Pirates to the brink of despair in the Sabaody Island arc thanks to his destructive power.
Kizaru’s speed poses a threat to many enemies, and he can only be anticipated by those observing Haki. This frightening strength is why Kizaru can maintain an easy-going attitude while fighting. Manipulating light is a really variable ability. However, Kizaru still hasn’t shown the extent of his power, yet his lightspeed makes him the fastest character in One Piece.
Quake-Quake Fruit (Gura Gura no Mi)
The Tremor-Tremor Fruit, initially possessed by Edward Newgate (Whitebeard) and later by Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard), allows its user to freely manipulate vibrations and cause destruction by shaking the sea and land. With a single strike, it can split the ground in half or sink entire ships and islands, which is an extremely useful power in One Piece‘s world.
Capable of creating earthquakes and tsunamis, it’s known as “the power to destroy the world” and has been revered as a dangerous ability in the anime. The Tremor-Tremor Fruit is considered one of the most powerful Devil Fruits in One Piece, and while the full reach of its effects hasn’t been shown, its devastating potential is unparalleled.
Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika (Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika)
Until the Wano Arc, Luffy’s Devil Fruit was believed to be the Gum-Gum Fruit, which wasn’t particularly powerful, but he used it in creative ways. However, after awakening, Monkey D. Luffy was revealed to have consumed the Human-Human Fruit, a Mythical Zoan-type Fruit, Model Nika, experiencing a dramatic power boost that turned him into the most absurd fighter in the series.
By transforming into the Sun God Nika, Luffy unlocked Gear 5, gaining complete freedom over his body, allowing him to manipulate and add rubber-like properties to his surroundings and turning anything he imagines into reality. Luffy gained god-like powers, making his Devil Fruit a cheat ability in the One Piece universe, even feared by the World Government itself.
Dark-Dark Fruit (Yami Yami no Mi)
The Dark-Dark Fruit has the ability to manipulate darkness and attract any matter into its surroundings with a gravitational pull similar to that of a black hole, becoming a troublesome power that can even swallow and compress an entire city. Its weakness is that, despite being a Logia, Blackbeard cannot transform into darkness to absorb the impact of attacks.
Therefore, Blackbeard has weak defense and is vulnerable to attacks whenever he activates his ability. However, what makes the Dark-Dark Fruit one of the most powerful in the story is that it nullifies the abilities of other Devil Fruit users. Since most of the major pirates in One Piece are Devil Fruit users, this gives Blackbeard an immense advantage over them.
Sing-Sing Fruit (Uta Uta no Mi)
Uta’s Sing-Sing Fruit appeared in the movie One Piece Film: Red. This Devil Fruit gives Uta the ability to sing and trap people in her own dream world, where she can do anything she wishes, and gives her full access to their bodies in the real world while they sleep, being able to manipulate them at will.
Although people are extremely vulnerable and have almost no way to escape Uta’s world, the Sing-Sing Fruit’s greatest ability is the fact that it can summon ToT Musica, an entity known as the Demon King of Songs who can alter reality and is nearly invincible, requiring a combined attack from some of One Piece‘ strongest characters to overcome it.
Although One Piece Film: Red, like the others, isn’t canon in the anime, this isn’t the case for some characters. In Uta’s case, she has been confirmed as a canon character in the franchise, which means the Sing-Sing fruit should exist in the One Piece universe.
Imu’s Devil Fruit
One Piece continues to reveal Imu’s true strength as the story’s main antagonist. Although its name hasn’t been revealed, it has been hinted he possesses a powerful Devil Fruit. This Devil Fruit appears to be a Mythical Zoan associated with Evil, due to Imu’s demonic appearance. However, what’s truly terrifying are the abilities Imu has displayed so far.
Imu can make evil contracts and use them to control others with his Domi Reversi ability, which allows him to alter their will and personality and turn them into his slaves. Imu can also grant immortality to those who hold an evil contract in exchange for a portion of their life.
These demonic contracts make others immune to injuries due to their regeneration and can give an incredible power boost. There are still many mysteries surrounding Imu’s Devil Fruit, but so far there seem to be no limits to its capabilities. Therefore, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to affirm Imu’s Devil Fruit has the strongest abilities in One Piece.
