Over the last two decades, Marvel Studios has been churning out superhero movie after superhero movie, establishing franchises across a massive cinematic world now known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Some superheroes have a bunch of movies, such as the members of the Avengers. These heroes tend to be Marvel’s biggest and brightest stars, iconic characters who have maintained their popularity over the years and fill theater seats. But not all Avengers have their own movie. Some of them have never starred in their own film, despite appearing in multiple films across the MCU.
Here are 7 famous Avengers who have never been given their own movie.

Nebula
Nebula (Karen Gillan) is the adopted daughter of the MCU’s first major villain, Thanos. She was raised alongside Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) and trained to be a warrior. Thanos often forced the adoptive sisters to fight. After every loss at the hands of Gamora, Thanos would replace a piece of Nebula with a cybernetic part, transforming her into a cyborg. Because of her troubled past, Nebula was first introduced in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy as a secondary antagonist.
Over the course of subsequent films, Nebula gradually morphed from villain to antihero to a protagonist. She eventually joins Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy and becomes a member of the Avengers during the 5-year blip between Infinity War and Endgame. Nebula has appeared in six films so far, though she’s never starred in her own individual movie.

Rocket Raccoon
Rocket Raccoon, also known simply as Rocket, is an anthropomorphic raccoon, the product of illegal genetic and cybernetic experiments. Voiced by Bradley Cooper, he starts off the MCU as a bounty hunter and mercenary. Rocket goes on to become a key member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, known for his fierce intelligence and mastery of weapons and technology. While his quick-witted sarcasm often draws laughs, Rocket has a traumatic past that makes him a sympathetic character – and also a fan-favorite.
Like Nebula, Rocket remains on Earth during the 5-year blip and becomes a member of the Avengers. He, too, has appeared in 6 MCU films so far. Although he’s a major character in The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Rocket has never had his own movie.

Hawkeye
Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye, is an expert marksman, archer, and an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Despite his lack of superpowers, he’s recruited by Captain America and is a founding member of the Avengers. His first appearance was a brief cameo in 2011’s Thor. Hawkeye separates himself from the Avengers after the divisive events of Captain America: Civil War. He slips even further after his family falls victim to the blip, becoming a violent vigilante known as Ronin. Hawkeye rejoins the Avengers in Endgame, but he leaves the team once again after successfully defeating Thanos and reviving his family.
Hawkeye has appeared in six MCU films as a major player in the Avengers and hasn’t appeared in a movie since Endgame. He has yet to appear in a film where he doesn’t share the spotlight, though he did star in his own Disney+ miniseries, Hawkeye.

Bucky Barnes
Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is the childhood best friend of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who famously goes on to become Captain America. Barnes is seemingly killed in action while serving alongside Rogers during World War II. In truth, he was captured by Hydra and was brainwashed into becoming a lethal assassin. He’s transformed into the Winter Soldier, a super soldier with a metallic arm.
Barnes and his brainwashed alter ego are revealed to be alive in the 2014 film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s also revealed that he assassinated Tony Stark’s parents on the orders of Hydra. Although his murderous past contributes to breaking up the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, Barnes does fight alongside the Avengers when they reassemble in Avengers: Endgame to take on Thanos. After Captain America retires, Barnes strives to make amends for his past and ends up joining the New Avengers in 2025’s Thunderbolts. Barnes has been a major supporting character throughout nine MCU films. He even had a lead role in the Disney+ miniseries, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But when it comes to movies, Bucky has yet to be the lead. Perhaps one day, we’ll get Bucky in a standalone prequel.

Vision
Vision first appears in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This powerful android was created by essentially combining the Mind Stone with Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence, J.A.R.V.I.S. Originally created by Ultron to serve as his body, Vision ends up turning on Ultron and helps the Avengers defeat him. He then joins the team, becoming one of its most powerful and unique members.
Vision notably strikes up a romance with his fellow Avenger, Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. He’s killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War after Thanos savagely rips the Mind Stone from Vision’s skull and hasn’t appeared in a MCU film since. He did, however, reappear in a starring role in the Disney+ miniseries, WandaVision.

Scarlet Witch
Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), better known as the Scarlet Witch, first appears in Avengers: Age of Ultron as a Sokovian refugee who volunteers to be experimented on by Hydra. After coming into contact with the Mind Stone, she’s morphed into a sorceress with the ability to harness chaos magic, capable of telekinesis, altering reality, and manipulating time and space. She turns on Hydra and aligns herself with the Avengers, helping them defeat Ultron.
The Scarlet Witch becomes a fixture on the Avengers and one of the MCU’s most powerful characters. She shares a romantic relationship with her fellow Avenger, Vision. But after Vision’s brutal death in Avengers: Infinity War, the Scarlet Witch loses a piece of herself and descends into a dark mindset. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness turns her into an unstoppable force and a villain fit for a horror movie. The Scarlet Witch has appeared in six MCU films and also had the lead role in the Disney+ miniseries, WandaVision. She hasn’t appeared in an MCU movie since her alleged death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but there may still be hope for Wanda to have her own film if she’s ever resurrected.

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk
After getting blasted by gamma rays, Bruce Banner transforms into a green monster known as the Hulk. He’s usually portrayed as an unstoppable force fueled by anger. Hulk’s superhuman strength seems to know no limits, making him one of the most powerful characters in the MCU. He’s like the powerful fist of the Avengers, the MVP of the all-star team. Everyone feels more confident when Hulk joins them in the battle.
Technically, the Hulk has had his own standalone movie in the MCU. 2008’s The Incredible Hulk is a part of the MCU, where Bruce Banner is portrayed by Edward Norton. Due to behind-the-scenes drama, Marc Ruffalo took over the role of the Hulk in Avengers. He’s played the character ever since, appearing in nine MCU films, as well as the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Despite being a central figure of the MCU, Ruffalo’s Hulk has yet to have his own standalone film.
