Newcastle are back in Premier League action today, taking on Everton in the 3pm kick-off at St James’ Park.
Everton sit one point above us in the league, upping the importance of a win on a weekend where our European rivals have winnable games, with Liverpool taking on West Ham, Brentford travelling to Burnley and Bournemouth hosting Sunderland.
Here is the side we’re backing Eddie Howe to select when the team sheet come out at 1.45pm…
Predicted XI
(4-3-3): Pope – Trippier, Thiaw, Burn, Hall – Ramsey, Tonali, Joelinton – Elanga, Gordon, Barnes.
OUT: Ramsdale, Botman, A Murphy, J Murphy, Osula.
IN: Pope, Hall, Ramsey, Elanga, Gordon.
At the back, I think Pope, Thiaw and Hall will return, with Botman the one to drop out. After recovering from a back injury, I doubt the Dutchman plays twice in a week, meaning Burn should keep his place.
In midfield, I think we’ll see Ramsey if fit – Willock can come in if not – alongside Tonali and Joelinton, meaning no Woltemade for this one, unless Howe opts to put the German back up top.
In attack, I’ll go for Elanga on the right, Barnes on the left and Gordon in the false nine role, although I have my doubts about the former Everton man playing against a physical low block. Personally, I’d like to see Barnes and Gordon either side of Woltemade for this one.
