4 changes? – Predicted Newcastle team to face Tottenham tonight

Newcastle’s brutal run of away games starts tonight, as we take on Tottenham live on TNT Sports at 7.30pm.

After Spurs this evening, we face an FA Cup trip to Aston Villa this Saturday, followed by a long flight to Qarabag next Wednesday and a Premier League clash at Man City next weekend; not ideal after a run of one win in our last eight games.

We need a bounce-back win tonight to save a season in danger of slipping away from us, but which side will Eddie Howe go with? Here is our best guess…

Predicted XI

(5-2-3): Pope – Miley, Thiaw, Botman, Burn, Hall – Bruno, Tonali – Elanga, Gordon, Barnes.

OUT: Trippier, Willock, Murphy, Wissa.

IN: Burn, Miley, Elanga, Gordon.

Starting in attack, with Wissa out of sorts after Saturday’s stinker and Woltemade scoring in just one of his last 19 games, I think we could see Gordon back in that false nine role if he’s fit enough to start.

In a similar system to the one that caused PSG all sorts of problems a few weeks ago, Tonali and Bruno could hold down that midfield two, with a back five also allowing Burn to return, bringing some leadership we desperately need.

Elanga has to start – he has looked sharper in recent weeks and should’ve played on Saturday after his brilliant goal at Man City – and I think we’ll see Miley back in the side, providing he has recovered from that dead leg, with Trippier clearly being targeted as a 35-year-old full-back well past his best.
