For those who do not plan to make a trip to theaters this weekend, Prime Video might just be exactly where you can find an exciting selection of films from the comfort of your own home. For this week, I’ve looked at two films that have just arrived on the streamer. One of them is a fun new Prime Video original.
The other is a giant action flick that makes for an ideal popcorn movie to watch with the family and marvel at all that is going on. Given the approach of the holiday season, I feel like including a Christmas movie, a classic one at that, is the perfect way to end the weekend on Prime Video as we near the holidays.

Merv (2025)
To start us off is Merv. The new Prime Video original is a two-hander with beloved actors. Merv stars New Girl‘s Zooey Deschanel and Daredevil: Born Again‘s Charlie Cox, with the duo playing a former couple who bond when they are forced to reunite after their breakup because their dog, Merv, is feeling blue due to the ordeal.
The movie takes viewers on a road trip as Cox’s Russ goes with Merv to Florida, where Deschanel’s Anna surprises him, and we slowly see not only the dog get back to his former happy self, but the flame between the couple reawaken. Merv is a fun movie with hilarious scenes and a heartwarming message within its romantic plot.

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
On December 9, Transformers: The Last Knight arrived on Prime Video. The movie is not one of the robot franchise’s most beloved, but I feel it gets more blame than it should. It is a perfectly enjoyable action movie that plays around with the Transformers continuity to deliver what is a fresh entry in the action franchise.
The concept of having the Transformers meet Merlin — yes, King Arthur’s Merlin — is insanely enjoyable to me. As with all Michael Bay Transformers movies, the visuals, action, and explosions are there to make sure this film never becomes uneventful. Transformers: The Last Knight has fun with historical connections to the point where Bumblebee fights Nazis. I mean, what more do you want?

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Finally, with the Christmas season fast approaching, there is an exciting classic that makes for a fitting addition to the list. How the Grinch Stole Christmas features easily one of Jim Carrey’s best performances, and that is saying a lot. The Grinch is a magnetic character who goes through an interesting journey throughout the film.
The movie is perfect for families, telling a strong message about what Christmas is all about. We watch as the closed-off Grinch slowly opens up to Cindy Lou, changing his mischievous ways because of the young girl’s kindness. As James Gunn’s Superman stated earlier this year, maybe kindness is the real punk rock, and the movie on Prime Video highlights that.
