Netflix subscribers are having a fantastic end of the year, with several exciting releases on the platform, and this list aims to explore what December has to offer, including a last chance at a couple of titles. This week’s Netflix weekend movie binge does not include global smash hit The Great Flood, which was already featured on last week’s recommendations.
Instead, I have curated an interesting roster for families who are spending the end of the year together, as three films from different genres offer a nice variety among Netflix’s rich catalog. One of them is a trending movie on Netflix, another is a fun rom-com with a star that was gone way too soon, and the latter is a genre fan-favorite.

The Grinch (2018)
Christmas might have come and gone, but December is officially the holiday season all around. For those still enjoying the Christmas catalog that Netflix has to offer, I believe 2018’s The Grinch is a nice addition. 2000’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas is usually the go-to when it comes to the Grinch this time of the year.
While it is indeed the better movie of the two, the more recent Grinch adaptation brings the best out of Marvel star Benedict Cumberbatch. The animated style is gorgeous and injects a vibrant light into an otherwise familiar story. This is a fantastic way to introduce the character and this Christmas tale to a younger audience, so international Netflix subscribers can take note.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
After our last Christmas entry, one of my favorite rom-coms is leaving Netflix next Monday, December 29. As such, this weekend marks the last opportunity to watch 10 Things I Hate About You on Netflix for the foreseeable future. The Dark Knight‘s Joker star Heath Ledger oozes his signature charisma throughout the film.
Ledger’s Patrick is a bad boy hired to make Kat Stratford fall for him, and it is thrilling to see what starts out as a pure transaction evolve into a genuine love story. Ledger and Julia Stiles have great chemistry as Kat slowly begins to open up to Patrick. Ledger’s performance in the “bleachers” scene is an iconic rom-com moment.

Ready Player One (2018)
The last movie subscribers should consider watching on Netflix this weekend is directed by Steven Spielberg. Ready Player One is for pop culture fans of all ages, making it the perfect family movie this December. The film depicts a futuristic landscape where people can enter OASIS, a virtual reality universe where franchises meet.
Ready Player One leaves Netflix on December 30.
Ready Player One features characters, vehicles, and equipment from popular franchises like Back to the Future, DC Comics, Speed Racer, King Kong, and many more. As Tye Sheridan’s Wade Watts embarks on a quest to gain control of OASIS, saving it and himself from his unfortunate life, audiences will get lost in an immersive world. This movie is perfect to end the weekend on Netflix.
