By winning his first green jacket, and gaining entry into the exclusive career Grand Slam club, Rory McIlroy will add to his legacy going forward. He will be in the field at the year’s next major, the 2025 PGA Championship, which begins on Thursday, May 15. Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina will host the event, which saw Justin Thomas prevail the last time the course played host to this major in 2017. All eyes, however, will be on McIlroy, a +500 co-favorite in the latest 2025 PGA Championship odds.
The golfer he’s tied with is Scottie Scheffler, who is coming off a fourth-place finish at Augusta. Bryson DeChambeau is next on the PGA odds board at +1000, while Ludvig Aberg and Xander Schauffele both come in at +1200. Thomas is +2000 to utilize in 2025 PGA Championship bets as he seeks to become the seventh golfer to win this major three times. Before locking in any 2025 PGA Championship picks of your own, or entering any 2025 PGA Championship DFS picks on sites like FanDuel and DraftKings, be sure to see the early golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.
SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
This same model has also nailed a whopping 14 majors entering the weekend, including the 2025 Masters (its fourth Masters in a row) and last year’s PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed its sports betting picks could have seen massive returns on betting apps like FanDuel, DraftKings and Fanatics.
Now that the 2025 PGA Championship field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
2025 PGA Championship predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the PGA Championship 2025: Collin Morikawa (14-1), a two-time major winner, including being the 2020 PGA champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles and barely cracks the top 10. Morikawa is coming off a 14th-place tie at the Masters, marking the third straight major tournament he failed to place in the top 10. This ties the longest drought of his career, and he’s failed to even crack the top 25 in two of his last three PGA Championship starts.
Quail Hollow checks in at over 7,500 yards, making it the sixth-longest course in the 2025 PGA Tour season. That length could be an issue for Morikawa, who ranks just 163rd (out of 183 qualified golfers) in driving distance. Morikawa is also struggling in the short game, as once he steps foot onto the green, he ranks just 128th in total putting. It’s been 18 months since Morikawa won any event on any tour, and the model isn’t high on his prospects for the 2025 PGA Championship.
Another surprise: Justin Thomas, a 20-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Thomas is in his comfort zone at the PGA Championship, where he has more wins (two) than he has top-5 finishes at all other majors combined (one). He won this major the last time Quail Hollow hosted it in 2017, and he has even more recent success at the Charlotte golf course. Quail Hollow hosted the 2022 Presidents Cup in which Thomas went 4-1 and racked up four points, both of which ranked second most among all players in the event.
Thomas also has another pair of top 10s at the PGA Championship in his career, so he is usually always competitive. That word also describes his play on tour this season as he’s 11th in FedEx Cup standings, with a pair of runners-up, amongst four top-10 finishes, over his last eight tournaments. Thomas owns the best putting average (1.657) on the PGA Tour, and that should serve him well at a course that is notorious for its fast and undulating greens. See who else to pick here.
How to make 2025 PGA Championship picks
The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 18-1 or longer who will make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model’s picks here.
