Liverpool U21s secured a dominant 4-1 win in the mini Merseyside derby, with Keyrol Figueroa scoring an impressive hat-trick against 10-men Everton.

After three league games without a victory, Rob Page’s side returned to a wet and windy Kirkby for what proved to be a match decided by a chaotic first-half performance.

The impressive Kieran Morrison was not involved after featuring on Arne Slot‘s first-team bench at Brentford, affording Kaide Gordon the opportunity in the No. 10 role.

The 21-year-old was heavily involved in a first half that concluded with four goals, a penalty save and two red cards for Everton.

Gordon set up the opener and got a knock for his troubles, with a strong run on the left side of the penalty area ending with a ball across for Figueroa to convert with his first touch.

An interesting hush celebration followed from the teenager.

Everton equalised seven minutes later after two deflected balls into the box landed at the feet of Francis Gomez, who emphatically finished beyond Kornel Misciur.

The visitors then went down to 10 men in the 27th minute after George Finney was shown a straight red card for a lunging tackle, and Liverpool made the most of the advantage.

Calvin Ramsay, playing as an overage player for Liverpool, then scored a rare goal after continuing his run to head Gordon’s cross into the back of the net to make it 2-1.

An incredibly soft penalty went the way of the young Reds, and while Gordon had his effort saved, Figueroa made sure of a two-goal buffer moments later with a superb header into the far corner.

Everton emerged for the second half without their manager, Paul Tait, after he too was shown a red card after the events of the first 45.

He will have watched from elsewhere as Liverpool controlled possession and made sure of their derby victory, though Figueroa was not content with only two goals.

The forward was heavily involved in the penalty box, and after an impressive overhead attempt, he got the hat-trick he was looking for with a powerful low effort in the final minute.

It wrapped up an impressive performance from Liverpool, which also coincided with centre-back Amara Nallo’s first start since suffering an injury in the first game of the season.
